Envirolok
Introduction to Envirolok
|
|
Hanson’s Garden Village is now your Northwoods distributor for Envirolok™ products
If you are concerned about landscaping challenges such as soil erosion, storm water, runoff, slope stabilization or water erosion, among other things, then we’d like you to consider Envirolok, a vegetated retaining wall from Agrecol®. We were involved with the installation of thousands of Envirolok bags in 2008, and are pleased with how well they work.
Some of the uses for Envirolok are:
Natural retaining walls, which are eligible for permits when other types of construction are not in environmentally sensitive areas. Also:
Erosion Control Shoreline stabilization Storm water management Stream restorations Residential lakeshore preservation and remediation Landscape enhancements Creating functional green spaces Creating naturalized buffers along tributaries
The Envirolok System provides permanent erosion control in these important steps:
1. Envirolok soil bags, which encapsulate the soil, are woven into a wall unit with including a locking spike to create immediate surface stability.
2. The bags are planted with native plants or seed which develop extensive root systems, growing through the bags.
3. Mature natives, with some of their powerful root structures growing many feet into the earth, lock the wall into place, even growing into the existing native soil.
4. This provides an ecologically sound and beautiful vegetated erosion control system with permanent structural strength.
In conclusion, Envirolok vegetated walls are strong, environmentally-friendly, and create beautiful, permanent natural landscapes with native plants. Hanson’s also has the seed, plant plugs and shrubs required to complete the job. Check out our special enviro-root plants, grown specifically for Envirolok projects. It is not necessary to schedule your project for early spring when dormant bare-root or dormant live-stakes are available (although that will work as well).

Restoring Native Plant Commentary

For the past two years (and again this year), we have been a partner in the ground breaking "Wisconsin Lakeshore Research Project", an attempt to measure the benefits of various lakeshore restoration projects. We are also pleased with our partnership with Agrecol in bringing the benefits of the Envirolok vegetated slope stabilizing system to Northern Wisconsin.
