Why Hanson's?
We are primarily plant growers, and sell very little of what we don't grow ourselves. Our major emphasis is with the "outdoor" plant business in all of its aspects:
  • Annuals
  • Hanging Baskets and Planters
  • Perennials
  • Trees and Shrubs
  • Water garden plants (primarily natives)
  • Vegetable Starts
  • Native plants for gardens and restoration efforts
  • Fall Mums, Kale, Asters, & Pumpkins.
We are active in plant evaluation for Northern gardens, and in breeding efforts in the genus Heliopsis. There are several thousand square feet of display and test gardens that our customers can enjoy and learn from.
We are recognized leaders in the area of producing native regional plants, and in their uses; and we are active in the designing and installation of lakeshore restorations in particular. We are sincere promoters of sustainable landscape practices.
Hanson's Garden Village offers more than just plant material. We stock, besides the gardening basics, many interesting, unusual, and "artsy" garden items. You can find landscaping necessities like mulches (bulk and bagged), composts, bagged topsoils, lawn edging and weed barrier, erosion blankets, grass and wildflower seed, and much, much more.
After the busy spring season, certain of our staff become quite busy with consult and design projects - anything from foundation plantings to herb gardens to perennial beds to native plantings. While we do not typically do actual installation work (except for some lakeshore restorations), we can help with that through our network of tried-and-true landscape firms that we partner with.
In the Autumn, we are busy helping folks with their Fall decorating needs: all the plants, plus pumpkins, straw bales, corn stalks, and more.
We ship boxed decorated Christmas wreathes throughout the "lower 48" to help our customers spread Holiday Cheer to their loved ones and associates during that Season. These wreathes are hand-made and decorated by the Hanson family. Ordering can be done by Phone, Mail, and/or E-mail through our website.
November through January is about the only time that you will find us "closed to the public". While February is not a gardening month - we will already be busy producing the flowering beauties of Spring. Our basic hours are 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday, with Saturday hours adjusted according to the seasons. We're closed Sunday. We have greatly extended hours in the Spring.

NEW ITEMS
Among newer offerings at Hanson's are:
  • Pre-filled pots & packs in early spring.
  • A less expensive alternative to the "Topsy-Tury" tomato bag (which we also carry)
  • A new smaller Envior-lok log for easily building raised plant beds. See the demo next door at Bethesda (Opportunities limited!)
WE HOPE THAT WE CAN BE OF SERVICE TO YOU!
