General Information
Over 20 years ago, Brent and I purchased a few acres of land from Jessie Zettler. Who would
have thought the vision of growing plants for people would blossom into what is known as Hanson's today. We began as a wholesale grower, selling Cyclamen, Azaleas and cut flowers to area florists; but times changed and new ideas developed. Now we do both retail and wholesale with customers as far apart as the Upper Peninsula and Southern Wisconsin. We had only one greenhouse in the beginning but now have more than twenty, all filled to the brim each spring. Our first crops were field-grown cut flowers for the wholesale market. We also dried flowers for wreaths and bouquets. Before the bedding plant business got so large, the greenhouses were filled with Poinsettias, Cyclamen and, Mums. We still grow Mums and Poinsettias but not as many as in the early 90's.
Our interest in helping others achieve beauty in their world has been the guide to our success. It has taken hard work and a dedicated staff to help us expand to where we are today. The patenting of Heliopsis 'Loraine Sunshine' was an interesting accomplishment. It started out as a unique plant find. After some research and propagation work, it
became "our" plant.
The village concept grew out of an
idea to make the trip to Hanson's
more fun. The village facades add
charm to the otherwise plain exteriors.
Phil Guzik of Acme Sign Co. was
hired to paint facades for the barn,
cabin, church, schoolhouse, black-
smith shop, hotel and a new general
store. The village inspired our name
change. We were first known as
Rhinelander Floral Company but
changed to Hanson's Garden Village.
We hope viewing our display gardens
helps to inspire our customers to add
new plants to their gardens.
